Biden Delivers Sentences for Almost 1,500 Individuals

The president announced yesterday that he was pardoning 39 individuals convicted of drug offenses and other nonviolent crimes. He also commuted almost 1,500 other people's sentences. In total, that was the biggest act of clemency in American history to occur in a single day. According to the president, those whose sentences are being commuted were put under home confinement during the COVID-19 pandemic and have since made a full recovery to their families and communities.
 
America, according to Biden, was founded on the promise of opportunity and second chances. He continued by saying that one of his greatest privileges as president is to show mercy to those who have repented of their deeds and to give them another opportunity to engage in American society.
In addition to pardoning his own son Hunter Biden, who was found guilty of illegally possessing a firearm and pleaded guilty to willfully failing to pay taxes, Biden has previously granted categorical pardons to those convicted of marijuana use or possession.

The president is not finished yet, according to the White House. They claim that more pardons and commutations are on the horizon and that he will take further action to offer meaningful second chances before he leaves office.
